My learning object is a podcast surrounding the topic of food chains. It specifically looks at the various roles within the food chain (producer, consumer, herbivore, etc.). The specific expectations related to this learning object are found within the grade 4 Science Curriculum, under the Understanding Life Systems, Habitats and Communities Strand:
3.5 classify organisms, including humans, according to their role in a food chain
3.6 identify animals that are carnivores, herbivores, or omnivores
Podcasts are great tools to use with students as they can be accessed and listened to at any time, and really appeal to audio learners. It is something that students can refer back to if they forget certain information or they can refer back to it if need-be for any type of project or inquiry.
